Title: Engineer III-Big Data

Location: This is a work from home opportunity. Preferred locations of Atlanta, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Cincinnati, OH; or near other Elevance Health locations.

Responsible for the delivery of end to end system development and maintenance on complex technology systems within assigned client group, business unit or corporate department.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform Data engineering functions in the Intelligence Community or other government agencies.

  • Knowledge about security and best practices.

  • Develop flexible data ingest and enrichment pipelines, to easily accommodate new and existing data sources.

  • Development on medium to large complex customer technology platforms or architectures.

  • Maintains active relationships with internal and/or external stakeholder to develop business requirements.

  • Analyzes and classifies complex change request and identifies and documents possible system code enhancements.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of industry trends, our products and infrastructure.

  • Works with development team to develop and define application scope and objectives and prepare functional and/or technical specifications.

  • Analyzes and evaluates detailed business and technical requirements.

  • Understands the product and analytics and drive requirements that take into account stakeholders needs.

  • Identifies problems/risks.

  • Codes and maintains complex components of information systems.

  • Mentors others on coding standards and performs code reviews.

  • Aids in integrating activities with other IT departments for successful implementation and support of project efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 3 years experience on one platform, multi database, multi language or multi business application; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

  • 4 years of experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NiFi.

  • 4years of experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python (preferred) and/or Java.

  • 6 years of experience with and managing data across relational SQL and NoSQL databases like MySQL, Postgres, Cassandra, HDFS, Redis, and Elasticsearch.

  • 6 years of experience working in a Linux environment.

  • 2 years of experience working with and designing REST APIs.

Preferred Skills, Experiences and Competencies

  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, S3, EMR, RDS, Redshift, Athena and/or Glue.

  • Experience with Jira, Confluence and extensive experience with Agile methodologies

  • Work with software configuration management tools such as Git/Gitlab, Bamboo, Salt, Confluence, etc.

  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and their enabling tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, etcExperience mentoring others, leading small projects and providing troubleshooting support is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with Snowflake to build the Data lake layers

  • Experience in designing/developing platform components like caching, messaging, event processing, automation, transformation and tooling frameworks.

  • Experience developing data ingest workflows with stream-processing systems: Spark-Streaming, Kafka Streams and/or Flink.

  • Experience transforming data in various formats, including JSON, XML, CSV, and zipped files.

  • Experience with performance tuning of ETL jobs.

  • Experience developing flexible ontologies to fit data from multiple sources and implementing the ontology in the form of database mappings / schemas.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with customers and other team members.
